My antidote to FOMO

The antidote to FOMO

I feel overwhelmed by the volume of content streaming to me. It’s like a crazy roller coaster. Exciting, thrilling, but not going anywhere. Blogs, articles, videos, podcasts. Constant messages to improve ourselves. To do better. To achieve more. To unlock our potential.

And I enjoy it, I want to know, I want to learn, I want to improve. But, I’ve found myself spending so much time consuming the content, that I don’t have time to actually use it.

I know I have a fear of missing out (FOMO). If you are like me, a bit controlling, a bit obsessive, a bit anxious, then FOMO can really mess with you. It can eat up the best working hours in many days, even months that could have been spent more productively.

The Perfect Day FOMO

Just to be clear, when I say productive, I don’t mean working every possible second of every day. No, productivity is about subtraction more than addition (more on that later)

So I’m using an antidote to FOMO. The Perfect Day.

Where FOMO keeps me scrolling on the news feeds. The Perfect Day brings me back to what I have committed to achieving today.

When FOMO drives me to spend more time on search. The Perfect Day reminds me of the principles I’ve consciously decided to follow.

And when FOMO gets me all excited about the latest life-changing idea, the Perfect Day gives me pause. I take time to reflect how this life-changing idea will actually change my life, and how I would make it part of my Perfect Day.

Anxiety? Diminished

Focus? Improved

Flow? I cruise more often than ever

My current Perfect Day looks like THIS

I’ve used different variations over the years, but this one is the easiest to use and follow.

In setting up and fine tuning it I follow the Perfect Day steps which are:

  • Use a single page
  • Write Perfect Day: Principles on the one side
  • List the principles that guide your decisions and dreams
  • Write Perfect Day: Actions on the other side
  • List the actions you commit to take each day, and the sequence in which they should be taken
  • Keep it on hand wherever you go
  • Consciously follow it
  • Fine-tune each item over time

Try it and let me know how it works for you.

Subscribe and you’ll get updates of new posts and notes to make your own Perfect Day even more powerful. And, you will be an amazing superstar!
